Illinois EDC plays key role in attracting Canadian innovator to Illinois
Zero Point Cryogenics (ZPC) has chosen to locate at the Illinois Quantum and Microelectronics Park (IQMP). As one of the world’s only manufacturers of ultra-low-temperature cryogenic systems, ZPC will be a critical part of Illinois’ burgeoning quantum technologies ecosystem.
ZPC CEO Chris Cassin cites the state’s talent and collaborative environment as reasons for choosing Illinois as its first U.S. location.
“Our presence here underscores the essential role cryogenics plays as foundational infrastructure for quantum computing, positioning us directly at the epicenter of this rapidly evolving industry,” said Chris Cassin. “We couldn’t have chosen a better place to open Zero Point Cryogenics’ first international Innovation and Service Hub location than here in Illinois. The region offers an exceptional pool of world-class talent, making it the perfect collaborative community to better serve our thriving U.S.-based clients and partners.”
ZPC announced its expansion at the Global Quantum Forum, joining Gov. Pritzker; Illinois EDC’s Christy George, John Aktinson, and Preeti Chalsani; Illinois Department of Commerce and Opportunity’s Kristin Richards and Lisa Clemmons Stott; IQMP CEO Harley Johnson; P33’s Brad Henderson; 1oth Ward Alderman Peter Chico; and Illinois Rep. Kam Buckner.
“Only a handful of companies in the world manufacture these systems, and as resilient, trusted supply chains become increasingly important, today’s announcement could not be more timely.
Quantum processors and cryogenic systems must evolve together,” said Christy George during the announcement. “By locating at the IQMP, Zero Point Cryogenics joins an ecosystem where research, manufacturing, engineering, and commercialization come together to accelerate innovation—not only for Illinois, but for the nation.”
This news is also a full-circle moment for Illinois’ world-class research and higher education institutions. ZPC co-founder Dr. John P. Davis earned his PhD at Northwestern, where he developed the expertise that became the foundation of his company.
