President & CEO Sandeep Nain to close out this month’s installment of Economic Drivers in honor of May’s Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month. Meet Economic Driver: Sandeep Nain, President and CEO, SNtial Technologies, Inc.
What inspired your career path and industry involvement?
My career path has been shaped by a strong academic foundation and global experience. Graduating from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) instilled a deep appreciation for problem-solving and the power of technology. I began my career in India and the UK, gaining exposure to diverse industries and cultures, which strengthened my ability to navigate complex, global challenges. After moving to the U.S., I focused on helping organizations leverage technology to achieve strategic goals, eventually founding SNtial Technologies to guide clients through business and technological change with high-quality results. My commitment to education, diversity, and giving back continues to shape my industry involvement, influencing how we build inclusive teams and create meaningful community impact.
As an AANHPI leader in your field, what challenges have you faced, and how have you overcome them?
As a first-generation immigrant and AANHPI tech leader, I have faced the challenge of building credibility in a new country while adapting to a different cultural and business environment. Starting a technology company in Chicago 25 years ago required navigating limited access to executive networks, overcoming a lack of representation in tech leadership, and addressing biases while establishing myself as a credible founder. Breaking into executive circles without established local networks was difficult, and the limited visibility of AANHPI leaders meant fewer role models and mentors. I overcame these challenges through disciplined execution, strong relationship building, and leveraging my global experience from India, the United Kingdom, and the United States. By focusing on results and expanding my network, I established credibility over time. My commitment to education, diversity, and giving back continues to guide my leadership, helping me build inclusive teams and expand access to opportunities in the technology sector.
Can you share a key moment in your career that shaped who you are today?
Founding SNtial Technologies was a defining moment in my career. It brought together my global consulting experience and my belief in mission-driven consulting, where technology is aligned with clear strategic outcomes. Building the firm over 25 years, along with consecutive Inc. 5000 recognition, reinforced the importance of disciplined execution, resilience, and a relationship-first approach grounded in long-term client trust. This journey shaped my leadership style, centered on integrity, adaptability, and long-term thinking. Beyond business growth, I have remained committed to bridging technology with community impact through supporting education, mentoring emerging talent, and advancing diversity, ensuring that our work contributes meaningfully to the broader ecosystem.
Who are (or have been) some of your mentors, role models, or inspirations?
My greatest inspirations are my parents, who instilled in me the values of hard work, education, and perseverance, and my family. My wife and children continue to shape how I approach leadership and life. As a parent of a son on the autism spectrum, I am constantly guided and inspired to do more for the community. This experience has deepened my commitment to inclusion, empathy, and creating meaningful impact beyond my professional work.
What does success look like to you—professionally and/or personally?
Success, for me, is measured by the impact I have on the community, especially in supporting special populations. Professionally, it means building an organization that delivers value while creating opportunities, fostering inclusion, and contributing meaningfully to society. Personally, success is about giving back and making a difference, particularly in advocating for individuals with diverse needs. Through mentorship, education, and community initiatives, I define success as helping create an inclusive environment where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.
How does being in Illinois contribute to your success as an AANHPI leader (if it does)?
Illinois has provided a strong platform for civic leadership and cross-sector collaboration. As an AANHPI leader, it has offered opportunities to contribute to a growing and increasingly visible community while helping bridge diverse cultural and business perspectives. My board and committee engagements across workforce development, economic development, education, and civic organizations have enabled me to contribute meaningfully while staying closely connected to both community needs and regional business priorities.
What do you love most about living and working in Illinois?
I value the opportunity to collaborate across sectors, including business, government, education, and nonprofits. The region enables meaningful civic involvement and practical work that advances workforce and community outcomes. I also appreciate the Midwest culture, which emphasizes authenticity, collaboration, and a strong sense of community. Illinois offers a rich diversity of perspectives and cultural heritage, creating an environment where different ideas and experiences come together to drive innovation and inclusive growth.
What policies, programs, or networks in Illinois have supported your professional growth or your organization’s mission?
Leadership networks and civic platforms across Illinois have played an important role in supporting both my professional growth and our organization’s mission. My board and committee involvement with groups such as the Illinois Economic Development Corporation, Illinois Workforce Development Board, Leadership Greater Chicago, the Executives’ Club of Chicago, Thresholds, and SAAPRI has provided meaningful opportunities to contribute and collaborate. Illinois has also created an environment that actively supports diverse companies through inclusive policies, strong institutional backing, and partnerships that expand access to resources and opportunities. This ecosystem has enabled businesses like ours to grow while contributing to broader economic and community impact across the state.
How do you or your organization support your local community or underrepresented groups?
SNtial Technologies reflects my commitment to education, diversity, and giving back. We prioritize building a diverse team of consultants and focus much of our work in the education and nonprofit sectors. We are also intentional about supporting special populations by promoting inclusive practices and contributing to initiatives that expand access and opportunity. As an organization, we actively invest in mentoring emerging talent, helping individuals from underrepresented backgrounds grow their skills and advance into meaningful careers in technology.
Are there any initiatives or organizations in Illinois that you’re proud to support?
Yes. My civic and community involvement includes board and advisory roles with organizations such as the Illinois Economic Development Corporation, the Illinois Workforce Development Board, Leadership Greater Chicago, Thresholds, SIM Chicago, SAAPRI, the Executives’ Club of Chicago, the Corporate Coalition, and Civic Consulting Alliance, among others. These organizations play an important role in advancing economic growth, workforce development, community well-being, and inclusive leadership across Illinois, and I am proud to contribute to their impact.
What inspires you to continue to affect change in your world?
I am motivated by the belief that education, inclusion, and opportunity can transform lives and communities, along with the constant support and inspiration I draw from my family. That commitment is reflected in my civic leadership in workforce and economic development and in my efforts to expand support, access, and opportunities for special populations.
How can Illinois EDC help elevate or amplify your work and that of your organization?
Illinois EDC can amplify SNtial’s impact by bringing together cross-sector partners and expanding opportunities to scale our work in emerging technologies, particularly AI, data, and digital transformation. By connecting public, private, and nonprofit stakeholders, it can help accelerate initiatives where SNtial applies technology to solve real business and workforce challenges, from AI adoption to modernizing enterprise systems. From my perspective, this support enables SNtial to deepen its focus on building AI-ready workforces, strengthening digital skills pipelines, and creating pathways for underserved and special populations to participate in the technology economy. It also allows us to align our innovation efforts with the state’s economic priorities, ensuring that technology-driven growth translates into measurable workforce and community impact.
What does AANHPI Heritage Month mean to you personally?
AANHPI Heritage Month is a time for me to reflect on the journey that brought me here and to recognize the contributions of those who came before me. It’s also an opportunity to celebrate the strength of our community and the importance of representation. On a personal level, it reminds me of the values I have carried forward through my own experiences and the responsibility to create opportunities for others. It reinforces my commitment to leading with a focus on education, inclusion, and meaningful community impact.
What would you say to a young AANHPI professional considering launching or relocating their career to Illinois?
Illinois offers strong professional pathways and a robust civic ecosystem. My advice would be to build your network early, seek out leadership communities, and look for opportunities to contribute beyond your day job. These relationships and cross-sector engagements can accelerate growth and broaden your impact. At the same time, stay grounded in purpose by giving back and caring for underserved populations. That perspective not only strengthens communities but also shapes you into a more thoughtful and impactful leader.
Anything else you’d like to share?
I would like to emphasize the importance of greater participation from Asian American senior leaders in community engagement. Visible leadership plays a critical role in serving as role models for the next generation, helping inspire confidence, broaden aspirations, and encourage more active involvement across our communities. Strengthening this presence not only amplifies our collective voice but also fosters a culture of mentorship, representation, and long-term impact.
